About this Role

Royal Docks Academy is a purpose built, mixed, comprehensive school for pupils aged 11 to 16. There are 861 pupils currently on the school roll. The school’s facilities are exceptional and a wonderful place for young people to learn and grow and also for teaching and support staff to work and learn in. Royal Docks Academy serves the diverse community of Newham, which, was the main host London borough to The Olympic Games in 2012. The pupil population is multi-ethnic and multi-cultural. It is also a fully inclusive school with a dedicated department for pupils who have profound, severe and multiple learning difficulties. We have a specialist PMLD team of teachers and support staff.

Purpose of the Job:

This is an ideal opportunity for a teacher with a passion for raising attainment and expectations. We are looking for a Lead Practitioner to develop and implement Teaching and Learning initiatives and strategies within the Science department and throughout the school, which raises the teaching practice of all members of staff and therefore raises student standards and progress. To be a model of excellent practice, maintaining a clear focus on outstanding delivery to learners ensuring a centre of best practice and excellence. The successful candidate will work alongside our current Lead Practitioner in Science, our Head of Faculty and our great team of Science teachers.

Some Specific Responsibilities

• To enable staff to plan high quality learning activities for Science across the Academy.

• To create and lead the Academy’s ‘Science teaching & learning team’ to ensure outstanding progress.

• To monitor and evaluate the quality of learning for Science for students.

• To create a classroom environment that facilitates research and independent learning.

• Contribute to the internal CPD programme for Science and the wider Academy.
