The Music Department
is a vital and vibrant part of school life, providing many opportunities for students
in both curriculum lessons and extra-curricular activities. Music also plays an
important part in the school’s liturgical life and supports mass and worship
throughout the year.
All students study Music in Years 7, 8 and 9 with lessons integrating the activities of composing, performing, listening and appraising through the elements of music. Music is a popular option at GCSE level with a wide range of instrumentalists choosing the subject. The Music department also shares a close relationship with St. Aidan’s Church of England High School as part of our Associated Sixth Form, thus benefitting from above average class sizes for both Music and Music Technology at A Level.
The extra curricular
opportunities in the school are extensive, offering a variety of ensembles with
something for everyone. These include: 3 Choirs, Jazz orchestra, Concert Band, Junior
Band, String Ensemble, Flute Choir, Guitar Group and many other student led
ensembles.
We also offer
instrumental lessons on all instruments and employ all of our own private
peripatetic teachers, meaning a more streamlined, cheaper and effective system.
Current teachers include session musicians, professional performers and ABRSM
and Rock School examiners.
What are we looking for?
The successful candidate will have a true
appreciation of many different styles of music and have experience of leading
an ensemble. There will also be the opportunity to deliver Music to A Level and
to lead and develop extra-curricular activities.
This appointment provides the
opportunity to teach well-motivated, hard-working students. You will join a
forward-thinking and high-achieving department and be committed to delivering
genuinely imaginative, engaging and varied lessons.
What can we offer you?
