Captains Close Primary School

About Captains Close Primary School

Welcome to our school, where we strive to make every day a happy memory for everyone in our community.

Our Vision’

We endeavour to provide a caring and aspirational environment where all members of the school community are cared about, valued and respected, where every individual can be inspired to enjoy learning for life”

At the heart of our vision we hold a set of shared values which we seek to promote across our school and to foster in every individual through our teaching consideration of spiritual, moral, social and cultural values.

We seek to promote:

Respect in the creation of a community that respects the views and opinions of others as well as our own. This is founded in developing empathy in R Time and our Social and Emotional Literacy planning. We are recognised as an enhanced Healthy School for emotional wellbeing, and we are an accredited Route to resilience school.

We also seek to promote growth in self-esteem in enabling children to develop independence in becoming problem solvers and negotiators. We aim to promote this in the application of skills and knowledge across the curriculum and in thematic learning.

Rooted in these values we seek to develop learner’s resilience and perseverance through challenging children and developing growth mindsets, recognising that we learn by reflection and specifically celebrating achievement and considering next steps in our commitment to assessment for learning strategies.  This fosters a community of risk- takers who can develop the confidence to approach learning with curiosity and creativity.

‘Our Aims’

  • To create a stimulating and fun learning environment.
  • To work in partnership with children, parents and the wider community.
  • To provide a broad and balanced curriculum that challenges children to reach their full potential.
  • To provide a happy, friendly, discrimination and bully-free environment for our children and encourage them to respect others and take responsibility for their actions.
  • To provide equal opportunities for children to contribute to the school community and to engage positively with the outside world.
  • To educate and encourage children to make healthy lifestyle choices.
  • To prepare and motivate our children to be life-long learners and become active members of their community.

We are committed to providing a safe and inspirational environment for children to enjoy learning and enable them to achieve their best, irrespective of ability or circumstances. We encourage them to be curious about the world we live in within a creative and nurturing environment whilst offering real life contexts in which to apply their learning.

All individuals, irrespective of age or role, in our community have personal learning journeys and we aim to develop a community of independent and collaborative reflective learners.  We are committed to promoting children’s self- esteem and confidence to ensure they believe in themselves and fulfil their ambitions.

But most of all…we enjoy our learning!
