Priory Academy

About Priory Academy

On arrival, our school’s picturesque setting, overlooking the historic Priory Church, greets you with a remarkable charm. Here you will find our school an exciting place, where traditional values are combined with the latest technology to deliver a very effective and modern curriculum.

We are an outward looking, successful school that has served our local community for over 100 years. Relentless in our pursuit of excellence, our school has developed rapidly from a popular middle to an extended secondary school (9-16 years).

In recent years our school has gone from strength to strength. Our teachers are dedicated and committed to engaging, supporting and challenging our students to achieve in all aspects of life. Our vibrant curriculum combined with excellent teaching has resulted in our children achieving not only very high KS2 SATs results, but outstanding GCSE results in our very first year in the summer of 2017.

Our Key Stage 2 joins seamlessly with our Key Stage 3 and 4 curriculum and builds on the successes of our colleagues at our partner schools (Dunstable Icknield, Watling and Studham Lower Schools). It is a combination of all these elements that fashions our high standards at GCSE.

Having been judged as ‘Good with outstanding features’ by Ofsted in June 2017, I was delighted that the inspectors recognised our aspirational vision for the school and our determination to ensure that all our pupils excel. In addition, they commented that “leaders and teachers have developed a culture in which pupils expect and want to be challenged.”

We enjoy a close-knit community, where we pride ourselves on providing high quality education and individualised care. Following the ‘values-based’ education philosophy, we promote and nurture our students to have a strong sense of social responsibility, ready for the wider world.

Quotes from our Ofsted inspection June 2017

The behaviour of pupils is outstanding. Because leaders and teachers consistently celebrate the good work of pupils, and because pupils know they are well taught, pupils want to do well.” Ofsted 2017

“The school’s work to promote pupils’ personal development and welfare is outstanding.” Ofsted 2017

Priory Academy is a safe, caring and happy school where students learn to show kindness, respect and consideration towards each other and the environment.

We seek to promote a well-ordered community by setting high expectations of good behaviour, appearance and attendance, with students being prepared to take responsibility for themselves and their actions.
