Thomas Harding Junior School

About Thomas Harding Junior School

Thank you for your interest in Thomas Harding.

We are all very proud of our school and the strength of our incredibly diverse community of children, parents and staff. We all work together to ensure that our children are cared for, nurtured and respected and that we provide an environment that allows each and every child to flourish.

Pupils are at the heart of everything staff do. Leaders make sure that every child is valued. Consequently, pupils are proud of their school, and they thrive.  Ofsted November 2021

We follow a growth mindset approach to learning and we offer an incredibly diverse and rich curriculum in which each child can excel.  This curriculum, which is underpinned by our ASPIRE vales (Aspiration, Success, Pride, Integrity, Resilience and Equality) has been written by our subject leaders for OUR children. We ensure that our ASPIRE curriculum is enriched with the widest possible opportunities, and we review this on an annual basis to ensure that it remains relevant to our pupils.

We take a holistic approach to the education of our children and during their time with us they make excellent academic progress. But the outcomes we achieve are much more far reaching than this; we also place great emphasis on developing the whole child through focusing on our ASPIRE values, we teach and expect to see:  good manners, integrity, respect, resilience and collaboration. We expect our pupils to take responsibility for themselves and others, doing the right thing, being kind and developing good characters and the ability to act as good citizens. Our children are incredibly happy at school and hugely enjoy learning.

Pupils are happy and love coming to Thomas Harding school. This school has a positive buzz of excitement as pupils engage readily with their learning. (Ofsted November 2021)

Staff have high expectations for what pupils can achieve. This is an energising place to be. Pupils do well because of a carefully constructed curriculum underpinned by the school’s values of aspiration, success, pride, integrity, resilience and equality. The school’s values are truly lived by everyone day to day. (Ofsted November 2021)

We are fortunate to have a highly skilled and committed staff team who always put our children first and strive for excellence in everything that they do. We have a positive, ‘growth mindset’ attitude and adopt a solution-focused approach to overcome obstacles and enable all children and adults to achieve their full potential. We encourage our children to be confident, independent learners, who understand that achieving success requires effort, practice and resilience and that making mistakes is an essential part of the learning process.

Leaders at all levels are highly effective and believe that their staff are the vital resource.  A strong team ethos shines through this school. The teachers and support staff are willing to go the extra mile to benefit all pupils. A member of staff said, ‘Everyone pulls together led by the top, it’s all for the pupils’. (Ofsted November 2021)

Our relentless focus is always on meeting the individual needs of each child in order to ensure that they develop the skills they need in order to reach their full potential and be ready for secondary school. We encourage parents to be involved in their children’s learning as much as possible, and to work in partnership with us for the benefit of their children.

Pupils get on harmoniously and play together respectfully. Their behaviour is exemplary. Pupils say there is no bullying at this school. They say that if they were to experience any unkindness, they are confident that staff would sort out their concerns. (Ofsted November 2021)
