I know every Headteacher is proud of their school and I am no exception.
I work with an outstanding leadership team who all have at least 10 years experience at TMA and our Chair of Governors has served on the Governing Body for 25 years! Why have we all stayed? We love and believe in what we do, we know what works for us and we are passionate about making a difference to the children in our community. We call it TMA DNA!
However, we have been able to stay together to drive our amazing school because we are constantly evolving. Our ‘Outstanding’ (Ofsted 2013) Initial Teacher Training is something we have always done, and are immensely proud of. We have trained over 200 teachers for Milton Keynes over a ten year period and it is so satisfying now to see many of those trainee teachers in deputy head positions in other schools in MK (not to mention the number of leaders and teachers we have here now at TMA, homegrown!)
Our Teaching School Status has given us great opportunities to work with other schools, supporting each other and creating a system where we will all only just get better. The only primary teaching school in Milton Keynes and one of only 500 schools nationally we have to remain sharp, we have to know the latest thinking and we have to be reflective in our own practise and be the very best we can be for our children at TMA. Everything we do must always be to support our own children’s learning.
I’ve heard people say TMA is an academic school. Yes, we are. I’ve heard we are a sporty school. Yes, we are. I’ve also heard that we are fantastic with children who don’t find school easy. Yes, we are. And we are so much more. We are successful because we are one team going forward. All 680 children and 114 staff. We have huge ambitions for our children and want them to be the very best. Most importantly our children want it too. They are proud of success and we celebrate it openly. Our parents are engaged, are a huge part of the journey. We travel it together to ensure our vision is achieved.
So, if you chose TMA for your child, what can you expect from us? An outstanding education – certainly, it should be a given. 1000 places in extra-curricular clubs each week. An extended schools programme which includes horse riding, squash, skiing and golf. Staff who will genuinely care for your child in every way – socially, emotionally and academically. Always a cutting edge school that takes advantage of the ever-changing educational landscape.
Children leave TMA with very secure foundations. It is our role to develop them from children just out of infant school to well-rounded, confident individuals ready for the exciting prospect of secondary school life. However, we can’t take all the credit! We work closely with our parents enjoying equal partnerships and sharing the same values that have been embedded for over 20 years.
TMA is all about the people, the school creed and the way we treat each other. That’s the glue that holds us together, our common ethos our shared values and our bare necessities. That is why we are special.
So yes, I am proud and I unashamedly feel that we are, as our school creed suggests, ‘more than just special. We are unique’.
With warm wishes,
Sarah Bennett Lucy Eldridge
